Just got back from the Vail Teva Mountain Games.
As always, so much to do and see, it made it hard to stay off the feet and keep rested in between the 20 miles (and 4,000ft of climbing!) for Saturday's XC race and Sunday's 9.75 miles of flats and 2,500 ft of climbing in the road TT.
A $3,000 check to the winner pulled in some of the fastest girls in the Rocky Mountains. It was a tough level of play.
With all the climbing and the 70 degree temps - I cracked hard on lap 3 on Saturday. You know how bad it gets. When you get all cold and tingly and start seeing break dancing penguins on the trailside. Yeah, it was that kind of ugly. But I felt much better on the road TT. It was only 30 minutes of suffering compared to the XC 1.5 hours of hill climbing delight. Perspective is a funny thing.
That said, the fitness is coming around which is encouraging. I keep forgetting that I was in a boot and off the bike all winter, so patience and tempering expectations is a good practice these days. I pulled in lucky 7s in both events.
Like I said earlier, the Teva Mountain Games are just an awesome event to see. The Paddle Boarding, the Slopestyle event, the Dog Jumping was particularly hilarious. And there was still so much more to see.
The GoPro Camera company was out in full force putting cameras on all sorts of athletes. Below is winning run from the slopestyle competition. ...Amazing.
